HISTORIC SITES AT ALLEGHENY PORTAGE RAILROAD NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site has a number of historical attractions. The most popular are the Lemon House and Engine House 6, which are a short walk from the park’s Visitor Center. The Skew Arch Bridge is a 1.5-mile round trip walk from the Engine House 6 exhibit, but for those not wanting to walk, the site can be reached by car. The site that best captures the history of the railroad is the Staple Bend Tunnel near Johnstown, a 30-minute drive from the Visitor Center and a 4-mile round trip walk or bike ride from the parking lot.
