Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site has a large, wooded picnic area located off of Old US-22. You can hike to it from the Visitor Center, but at a half mile one-way, that’s a little too far to carry all of your picnic supplies. See the Park Map for the location.

The picnic area has approximately two dozen tables and a dozen grills. Four tables and one grill are situated under a pavilion. Tables outside the pavilion are anchored into the ground and cannot be rearranged. There are no trash cans in the park, so you must take all of your trash with you.

One of the tables is handicap accessible. You can park near it, and a short, paved path leads to the table.

All tables are taken on a first come, first served basis, including the tables under the pavilion. If you want to have a group picnic, you must show up early in the morning and grab the tables you need. While you cannot move the tables in the yard to be closer to your group, five of these tables are right next to the pavilion.
