Great Smoky Mountains National Park has nine frontcountry campgrounds open and one in the process of being renovated. Frontcountry campgrounds are organized campgrounds with modern conveniences. Most accommodate tent and RV campers. See the following web pages for complete details on each campground. (Note: You must have a horse to camp in a horse campground.)

Abrams Creek Campground
Small, 16-site campground that can accommodate tent campers and small pop-ups and vans. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Balsam Mountain Campground
43-site campground that accommodates both tents and self-contained RVs no longer than 24 feet (vans, pickup truck campers, etc). Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Big Creek Campground
With only 12 tent sites, this is the smallest campground in the park. No RVs are allowed. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Big Creek Group Campsite
There is one group campsite at Big Creek that can hold up to 25 people. Tents only. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Big Creek Horse Campground
For those with horses, there is a five-site horse campground available. The campground can accommodate tents and RVs and horse trailers up to 35 feet long. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Cades Cove Campground and Anthony Creek Horse Camp
Year-round camping for tent campers and RVs. Horse camp for those with their own horse is available as well. Reservations accepted, and some sites are first come, first served.

Cades Cove Group Campground
4-site campground for groups of up to 30 people. Reservations required.

Cataloochee Campground
27-site campground that accommodates both tents and RVs. There is also a 3-site group campground. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Cataloochee Horse Campground
For those with their own horses, Cataloochee has a 7-site horse camp located just down the road from the main campground. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Cosby Campground
157-site campground mainly for tent campers, but does a few sites for RVs. Open seasonally. Reservations required.

Cosby Group Campground
Three campsites can accommodate groups of up to 20 people. The campsites are located within the main Cosby Campground. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Deep Creek Campground
92-site campground open to tents and smaller RVs. Open seasonally. All sites are taken on a first come, first served basis.

Elkmont Campground
Situated between Gatlinburg and Cades Cove, this is the largest campground in the park with 212 sites, plus four group sites. Open seasonally. Reservations accepted, and some sites are first come, first served.

Elkmont Group Campground
4-site campground located within the main Elkmont Campground. Sites can accommodate up to 30 people. Reservations required.

Look Rock Campground (currently closed, being renovated)

Round Bottom Horse Camp
5-site campground for those with horses. Tents and RVs welcome. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Smokemont Campground
142-site campground that accommodates both tents and RVs. Open year-round. Reservations are accepted.

Smokemont Group Campground
Three campsites can accommodate groups of up to 20 people. The campsites are located within the main Smokemont Campground. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.

Tow String Horse Camp
3-site campground for those with horses. Tents and RVs welcome. Open seasonally. Reservations are required.
