FORT HANCOCK WALKING TOUR

Tour Stop 23: Army Docks

The Army Docks stop on the Fort Hancock Walking Tour is the location of the docks used during the Fort Hancock era. What you see today is a modern dock. The original dates back to the 1850s, and when in use by Fort Hancock, it was much larger and more elaborate than what exists today. Supplies landed and men departed for war from these docks.

The Coast Guard uses the current dock, as does the ferry that brings visitors from New York City during the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day). If you see a crowd milling around the nearby chapel, they are most likely waiting for the ferry. From July through September you can rent a bike at a stand near the dock.
