Fishing at Sandy Hook, Gateway National Recreation Area

Saltwater fishing is allowed within Gateway National Recreation Area. No fishing license is required from the National Park Service, but those 16 and older must register with the New York or New Jersey saltwater registry (depending on where you are fishing). Registration is free. Furthermore, state fishing rules apply.

While no fishing permit is required by the National Park Service, parking permits are required for use of certain lots popular with fisherman, and everywhere within the park for after-hours fishing. See the following web pages for more information.
