MORRISTOWN NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK TOUR

STOP 6: GRAND PARADE

Allow 5 minutes for a visit

The Grand Parade is the sixth stop on a tour of Morristown National Historical Park and the last stop at Jockey Hollow. A parking area is located along Grand Parade Road. This stop can also be reached by hiking the Yellow Trail.

When standing at the Grand Parade stop, realize that the actual parade ground–where soldiers gather for training and inspections—was located beyond the wooded area on the far side of the open field and was six times the size of the existing field. In addition to its typical uses, the Grand Parade is where the day’s camp guard—27 men from various regiments—met for inspection and a short drill before heading out to guard the Jockey Hollow camps by forming a ring around the area. In addition, 50 enlisted men and two officers—the picket guard—arrived here every day to await orders. Sometimes they were sent out on a detail; sometimes they just waited at the parade ground ready for action.

There is nothing at this stop other than three wayside exhibits. You’ll be on your way in no more than five minutes.
