The Tennessee Memorial is the first Confederate memorial that you will come to on the Battlefield Tour road at Vicksburg National Military Park, located just after the Fort Hill stop on the battlefield tour. Notice that it looks more modern than many of the monuments in the park. After the war the South was in such bad financial shape that spending money on battlefield monuments was a laughable idea. Thus, many of the southern state monuments at Civil War battlefields, not just Vicksburg, were added at a much later date than the ones of the northern states. The Tennessee Memorial was dedicated in 1996, and the modern design reflects this date. Admittedly, this is late even for southern states, but better late than never.
