Unique in color and dedication, the Missouri Memorial is one of the most elegant memorials at Vicksburg National Military Park. It is the only memorial dedicated to both Union and Confederate troops, for the men of Missouri fought on both sides of the war (they met on the battlefield here at Vicksburg near the area marked by the memorial). The monument stands 42 feet tall, the sum total of Missouri Union (27) and Confederate (15) units that fought in the war. A bronze sculpture by Victor Holm adorns the center. It was dedicated in October 1917.
