Rhode Island Memorial (photo by Rhett Sutphin)
The Rhode Island Memorial is one of a group of state memorials located on Grant Avenue, a short detour off the Battlefield Tour road at Vicksburg National Military Park. This small memorial features a sculpture by Frank Edwin Elwell of an infantryman who has picked up the state’s fallen flag. It was dedicated in November 1908.
