Group Picnic Area A at Fort Washington Park is a large, single site, not one that is subdivided like Picnic Area B and Picnic Area D. It is located down the first side road off of the main picnic area road. If you have a large group and want privacy, this and Picnic Area C are the two best spots to choose from. It has its own restroom facility.

The picnic area is located on a field, so there is room for a small soccer game or other field games. The tables are situated under shade trees, so it’s not like the entire picnic area is on the open field. It is also close enough to Picnic Area B so that kids can run over and use the playground equipment located there.

Group picnic areas are available from mid-April through the end of October and can be reserved up to one year in advance at Recreation.gov. A reservation is from 9 AM to sunset. Fees are typically $75 to $150, depending on the size of the picnic area you choose. Current fees are listed on Recreation.gov.
