Green River Ferry Canoe Launch in Mammoth Cave National Park
The Green River Ferry Canoe Launch is the middle of three ramps within Mammoth Cave National Park. Located close to the Visitor Center and Mammoth Cave Campground, and right next to the Green River Ferry itself, the canoe launch is the ending point of a popular 8-mile paddling trip from Dennison Ferry and the starting point for a longer, 12-mile trip to Houchin Ferry.
The parking lot, which can hold three dozen passenger vehicles and three RVs, is high above the Green River, and getting to the water involves stairs. There are two boat slides with rollers in the middle, so you don’t have to hand-carry your boat all the way to the bottom or back up to the top.

When the water level of the Green River is low, the slides do not go all the way to the bottom. I did a paddling trip when the water was extremely low, and there were more than a dozen stairs that I had to carry my boat down before getting to the river. At higher levels the slides will be much closer to the water.

The Green River Ferry Canoe Launch is just upriver from the Green River Ferry, so if you are starting a trip downriver, you must be careful when paddling across its path. Once it takes off, it only takes a minute for it to get to the other side. Before paddling past it, make sure you make eye contact with the operator so he knows not to start up before you get past the boat.
