For reviews of all Mammoth Cave National Park tours, how to get tickets, what to wear, and rules for the tours, see the Cave Tours web page here on National Park Planner. Keep in mind that not all tours are offered year-round, and the schedule of what tours are available changes often. Be sure to check the National Park Service’s official Cave Tours web page for the current schedule.

I did not take the Accessible Tour at Mammoth Cave National Park because it is designed for those with mobility problems, which includes having difficulty going up or down stairs (there are none on this tour, and there are plenty on all other tours). Park Rangers will not assist anyone getting into or out of the cave, so those helping their friend or family member with mobility problems are more than welcome to attend the tour. Wheelchairs, walkers, and other assistive devices are allowed, but the National Park Service does not provide them. Keep in mind that having mobility problems is not a requirement to attend. The National Park Service does ask that those without mobility problems only take this tour if no other tours are available.

Participants get into the cave via an elevator at the Snowball Room, which isn’t always working. Call the Visitor Center at (270) 758-2180 on the day before or day of your visit to see if the Accessible Tour is being offered. Participants must drive in their own vehicle to the Snowball Room elevator entrance.

The tour covers a half mile of the mile-long Cleaveland Avenue, which is a fairly level section of Mammoth Cave. Some areas are even paved. For an idea of what you will be seeing, check out the Cleaveland Avenue Tour web page here on National Park Planner.
