73rd Pennsylvania Reservation on Missionary Ridge in the Chattanooga Unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park
See the main Missionary Ridge page for a reservation location map.
The 73rd Pennsylvania Reservation on Missionary Ridge in the Chattanooga Unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is where the 73rd Pennsylvania Regiment suffered heavy casualties in its assault against the Confederates stationed on the ridge. Nearly everyone was killed or wounded, and only 25 men avoided being captured. The reservation consists of three monuments and two tablets.
The reservation is located on the corner of Campbell and Glass Streets. It is situated next to a house, and there is no parking. The intersection is busy enough to have a traffic light, but unless you get stuck at the light there’s no way to get a decent look. You can either park on a side street and walk back to the reservation or take a trail that connects the Sherman Reservation and the 73rd Pennsylvania Reservation. From the Sherman Reservation, walk down Lightfoot Mill Road from the parking lot and you will find the trailhead on the other side of Campbell Street. The trail runs right along Campbell Street, but in the forest. Round trip is approximately a half mile.
