There is a small picnic area at Great Kills Park located within Crooke’s Point on Harbor Road about halfway between the start of the road near Great Kills Park Marina and the parking lot at the end of the road. There are five picnic tables—no grills—situated along Great Kills Harbor. There are also a few benches for those who want to sit and watch the boats. All tables are taken on a first come, first served basis. If you want to host a large, organized picnic within the Staten Island unit of Gateway National Recreation Area, the only place where you can reserve tables is the Miller Field Picnic Area.

To park a vehicle within Crooke’s Point you need an annual parking permit (see the Crooke’s Point web page for permit information). Out-of-town visitors who only want to have a picnic on the day of their visit are better off walking or biking from the free parking lot at the Great Kills Park swimming beach, Lot G. The distance to the picnic area is only a quarter mile, a distance most people can walk in no more than five minutes. If you plan to bike, the road and pedestrian paths are gravel, so road bikes with narrow tires may have a problem.
