FORT HANCOCK WALKING TOUR
Tour Stop 22: Mobilization Building
Building Number 120
Construction Date: 1940-1942
During World War II, a slew of temporary buildings were put up around Fort Hancock at Sandy Hook to handle the influx of soldiers. These were built of wood and used for barracks, offices, and whatever need may arise. Building 120 was one of the last of these structures to survive, but it and the one directly behind it (Building 119) were demolished in June 2020. The buildings were extensively damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and since both were made of wood and located in a flood zone, they were removed rather than renovated.
