Oxon Hill Farm offers daily educational farm and history programs for people of all ages. The Chicken and Egg, Meet the Dairy Cow, and wagon rides are held daily, and the Mount Welby Farmhouse is open on weekend afternoons. All programs are free. For a schedule of daily activities, see the official Calendar web page for Oxon Hill Farm. (Note that not all programs are offered year-round.)
There is a limit to the number of participants in the programs, and this can be problematic on weekdays when school and other groups tend to visit. If you have a group of five or more (school, church, birthday party, etc.) during the week, you must make a reservation at least two weeks in advance, and the further in advance the better. Call the park at (301) 839-1176 for more information or to make a reservation. Individuals and families are welcome to visit the park during the week as well, but if an activity is full due to a scheduled group, they will not be able to participate. If you would like for your child to participate, call the park to see if groups are scheduled, and if so, is it likely that any spaces will be available.
Preschool, kindergarten, and special education groups must bring at least one adult for every five children. For grades 1 through 12, please have one adult for every seven students. Chaperones can participate in the activities and must supervise the students at all times. However, chaperones do not count towards the group size.
Activities are held on the weekend as well, but spaces are taken on a first come, first served basis. You do need to sign up for the farm activities and wagon ride, which you can do at the Visitor Center starting at 9 AM each day. There is no limit on the number of visitors to the Mount Welby Farmhouse, so just show up to tour the house during opening hours (usually 2 PM to 3:30 PM).
