The Western Front Visitor Contact Station at Petersburg National Battlefield is the former Superintendent’s House at Poplar Grove National Cemetery. It was built in 1871 using the Second Empire architectural style. It is one of seventeen such houses still standing in a Civil War-era national cemetery.
The building is now used as a park office and is not open on a regular basis. However, for those wanting to locate a particular grave, on the front porch is a Find a Grave interactive map that gives the grave location of every identified soldier in the cemetery. This is available even when the building is closed. Restrooms are located outside the building and are also open year-round.
