CORINTH CIVIL WAR DRIVING TOUR STOP 10
The tenth stop on the Corinth Civil War Driving Tour is the Oak House located at 808 North Filmore Street. It was built in 1857 for William Kilpatrick and his family. Kilpatrick served in the Civil War, and afterwards he was a judge and mayor of Corinth. The house is now a private residence and is not open to the public. According to the historical marker outside the house, Kilpatrick sold it in 1866 to the widow of Thomas Martin, and her descendants still live in the house today.
During the fighting at Shiloh and the subsequent Siege of Corinth, the Oak House was the headquarters of Confederate General Leonidas Polk. After the Confederates evacuated the city on May 30, 1862, the house was occupied by Union officers.
