CORINTH CIVIL WAR DRIVING TOUR STOP 11

The site of the former Rose Cottage is at 714 North Fillmore Street. Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston made his headquarters here for the first few days of April 1862. Johnston was shot in the leg on April 6th during the Battle of Shiloh and died an hour later. His body was brought back to the Rose Cottage the next day.

The Rose Cottage no longer exists. The large house now on the property, the Gish-Hill House, was built in 1922.
