Western Overlook Trail at Flight 93 National Memorial

Western Overlook Trail at Flight 93 National Memorial

Visitors to Flight 93 National Memorial who would like a little exercise have the option of walking from the Visitor Center and Flight 93 Museum to the Memorial Plaza in the field below where United 93 crashed on September 11, 2001. Via the Allée, a walkway that starts at the back door of the Visitor Center, the walk is 1.1 mile. Via the Western Overlook Trail, which starts behind the Learning Center building, the walk is .6 mile. You can hike one path to the Memorial Plaza and the other back to the Visitor Center to form a nice loop around the area. If you choose to do so, be aware that walking in the clockwise direction starting on the Allée is the intended way to travel. Arriving at the Memorial Plaza on the Western Overlook Trail is akin to arriving through the back door. (Note that the trails are closed during the winter due to snow.)

See the following web pages for more information on the two walking trails:

WESTERN OVERLOOK TRAIL

There is also a Trail of Remembrance that forks off of the Allée near the Memorial Plaza. This is a half-mile trail (one way) to where a temporary memorial was set up shortly after September 11, 2001. However, everything has been removed, so it is now a trail to nowhere. I did not hike it for this reason.
