Ocracoke Island Visitor Center at Cape Hatteras National Seashore

The Ocracoke Island Visitor Center at Cape Hatteras National Seashore is located at the west end the island at the ferry dock area. It is open 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM daily from mid-April through September, and Wednesdays through Saturdays in October and November, same hours. It is open intermittently the rest of the year. Keep in mind that times can change, so before making travel plans be sure check the official Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s Operating Hours and Seasons web page for the latest schedule.

In addition to a Ranger-staffed information desk and a small book and souvenir store, there are a few exhibits about the island, the wild horses that used to run free, and the U-Boat activity during World War II. German subs sank many ships—merchant and military—just off the coast of the Outer Banks. You can read through all the information in about ten minutes.
