Picnic tables just outside the wall of Fort Tompkins in the Staten Island unit of Gateway National Recreation Area
There are multiple picnicking areas within Fort Wadsworth, part of the Staten Island Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. If you are doing the Fort Wadsworth Walking Tour, you’ll find a couple of tables just outside the walls of Fort Tompkins, three tables in the plaza across the street from the fort, and two tables next to the adjacent Battery Duane. There are no grills at any location. You’ll have a nice view of the Narrows and the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge from the plaza.
