Detached Park Units Main Page

The southernmost Confederate fort at Vicksburg National Military Park, South Fort guarded Warrenton Road (now Washington Street) and could also fire towards Union ships coming up the Mississippi River. It is located just down the street from Louisiana Circle, and there is a sizable parking lot at the base of the fort. To get inside, climb the gentle slope that starts at the right side of the parking area. Two cannon exhibits are located within the fort walls, but there are no information panels describing the history of the fort.
