The bedroom located in the northeast corner of Hampton Mansion’s second floor was traditionally set aside for children. It is decorated as it would have been around the mid-1800s when John and Eliza Ridgely (3rd owners) lived in the house. They had two children, Charles and Eliza (nicknamed Didy), and this would have been one of their rooms. As with the lower floor drawing room, most of the furnishings in the room belonged to Eliza.

Some of the Ridgelys had ten or more children, and with there being only six bedrooms on the second floor and two of them being the parents’ master bedroom and a guest bedroom, that doesn’t leave much room for ten kids. What gives? On the third floor are eight more small bedrooms that were used for either children or servants. The third floor is not on the Hampton Mansion tour. Besides, all of the rooms up there are empty.
