Length: .9 mile loop
Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: Flat and Easy
The Marsh Trail is a Hiker Only trail that branches off the northern end of the Wildlife Loop Road at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. I call it a loop even though the trail is really U-shaped, but you can create a loop out of it by walking back to your starting point along the road. The trail itself is .6 mile one way, but the total loop is just short of a mile.
If you are in a vehicle, the trailhead is close to the parking lot at the northwest corner of the Wildlife Loop Road. If you have a bike and are traveling around the Wildlife Loop Road, there is a bike rack at either end of the trail. There are no side trails or confusing intersections, so there is no way to get lost. The trail, like all in the park, is flat and easy.
The Marsh Trail is a great way to see the birds that visit the area. There is even an overlook platform with scopes for viewing wildlife. If you are an avid bird photographer, be sure to have a 400mm+ lens, as the birds are often too far away to get a decent photo with anything less.
