There are three hiking trails at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park—two at the birthplace site and one at Knob Creek. While situated in a park of historical significance, none of the trails add any insight into the childhood of Lincoln and are more for exercise purposes. At the birth site, you can’t even say that you are walking in the footsteps of Lincoln because he moved away when he was just two years old. However, at Knob Creek he most likely roamed the same grounds that you will find yourself on, for he lived there until he was seven.
The terrain at the park is hilly, and even the short .3-mile Boundary Oak Trail has some very steep hills. The Overlook Trail at Knob Creek, a 3-mile out-and-back hike, is the most strenuous and is the only trail of the three that will appeal to true hikers.
