Location of the original southern gate of Andersonville Prison

PRISON SITE TOUR STOP 3: SOUTH GATE

The South Gate was one of two entrances into Andersonville Prison, the other being the North Gate. While prisoners entered through the North Gate, only the dead came out of the South Gate. This is also where supplies were unloaded and carried into the prison. Today the gate is marked by two stone pillars.
