WSEG Boat Ramp at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

See the Boat Launches web page for an interactive location map.

The WSEG Boat Ramp is located within Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge at the end of a long dirt road that is full of potholes. I do not recommend taking a car on this road when it is wet and muddy, but it shouldn’t be a problem when it is dry. Also, the road is very narrow, so much so that it will be tough to pull over to let an oncoming vehicle pass. There is no way two vehicles coming in opposite directions can use the road at the same time.

The ramp is dirt and launches into Mosquito Lagoon. While motorboats can use the ramp, it appears to be geared more for canoes and kayaks. There is a small parking area that can hold perhaps three vehicles with trailers and an additional four vehicles without trailers.

There is a fee to use the WSEG Boat Ramp, and this fee gets you a pass that is good for the day at any of the fee-based facilities within Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. You can get a pass online in advance at Recreation.gov, or on the day of your visit at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. At all other boat ramps you can pay at the ramp using the self-pay kiosk, but there is not one at the WSEG Boat Ramp. Regardless of where you get a pass at the park, payment is cash or check only, even at the Visitor Center—no credit or debit cards. National Park Service annual passes, Duck Stamps, Canaveral National Seashore passes, and annual Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge passes are also good for using the boat ramps at Merritt Island. At the time of this writing the fee is $10 / day, but be sure to get the latest fees on Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge’s Visit Us web page.
