GENERAL INFORMATION
The visitor center for Little River Canyon National Preserve is housed in the Little River Canyon Center, a building owned by Jacksonville State University. It is a very large building, but most of it consists of meeting rooms for seminars and K-12 school functions and Jacksonville State offices. Park Rangers sometimes staff the information desk, but anyone on duty can answer questions about the park. Even the gift shop is owned and run by the University, though it does sell some National Park items.
OPERATING HOURS
The Little River Canyon Center is typically open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM. However, before making travel plans, get the current schedule on the National Park Service’s official Operating Hours web page for Little River Canyon National Preserve.

PARK FILM
An 18-minute film is shown on demand in the Little River Canyon Center’s auditorium. The first third covers the Canyon Center itself, but the film eventually gets around to Little River Canyon National Preserve and what there is to do in the park. Included are interesting segments on fishing and white water kayaking. It also discusses the ecology of the canyon. There is no objectionable material, so the film is suitable for all ages.
SCHEUDLING YOUR TIME
Plan to spend around a half hour at the Little River Canyon Center, which gives you time to watch the film, ask questions, and pick up the necessary brochures.
