Across the street from the Catoctin Mountain Park Visitor Center is a gravel parking lot. Here you will find the trailhead for the Blue Blazes Whiskey Still Trail and a small picnic area with six tables—no grills—in a narrow, shaded area. There is not a lot of room, so the tables are pretty close together. This is not a picnic area where you would hold any type of event, just a place to have a bite to eat before or after hiking some of the trails in the park. Besides, all tables are taken on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved.
A portable toilet is in the parking lot, but you can always walk back to the Visitor Center and use the modern restroom when it is open (daily, 9 AM to 4:30 PM).
