See the Park Map for playground locations.
There are four playgrounds at Anacostia Park, three of which are located at the southern end. Next to the Anacostia Swimming Pool is a set of climbing equipment, slides, and swings. At the center of the park near the picnic pavilion (next to Nicholson Street) is the Pirate Playground. Adult fitness equipment surrounds the ship, so adults can work out while their children play.
A third playground is located next to the Roller Skating Rink. In addition to the playground equipment are six outdoor checker and chess tables with chairs that offer visitors a place to sit, have a picnic, and of course, play chess or checkers.
One other playground is at River Terrace Park, which is located along Anacostia Avenue between Benning Road and the East Capitol Street Bridge. At the intersection with Benning Road are tennis and basketball courts, but if you drive farther down the road you will come to the playground. This is more like a neighborhood park than the main section of Anacostia Park, with residences and businesses on one side of the road and the park on the other. Parking is on the street, so you are competing for spaces along with everyone else coming to the area.
