Upstream end of Lock 74 at Mile 175.5 on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal

Lock 74 is located at Mile 175.5 on the C&O Canal towpath. There is a small roadside parking area at the lock. See the Locks and Lockhouses web page for an interactive location map.

Lock 74 is now spanned by the River Road vehicle bridge. There is no gate hardware, gates, or any other lock equipment left, but the stones of the lock itself are all in very good condition.

There is a small parking area along the road that holds perhaps three cars. If you are stopping at Lock and Lockhouse 75 and want a little exercise, you can also walk two tenths of a mile downstream to see Lock 74. Lock 73 is just 200 yards farther downstream.
