GENERAL INFORMATION

The Oak Ridge Campground is a wooded campground at Prince William Forest Park that can accommodate both tent campers and RVs, though there are no electric or water hook-ups. It is divided into three loops, and nearly all sites are level. Everyone is welcome in loops A and B, but C Loop is only for tent campers.

RVs are limited to 32 feet in length, and trailers are limited to 26 feet. Neither can be more than 12 feet in height. Driveways, which are all back-in, have lengths that vary per site. When making an online reservation, the driveway length is given on the reservation website, Recreation.gov. If you have a larger RV and / or want hook-ups, try the Prince William Forest RV Campground. This is within the park boundary, but operated by an authorized concessionaire.

SEASONS AND HOURS

The Oak Ridge Campground is open from March 1st to November 30th. Those camping have 24 hour access to the park. Non-campers must exit by sunset. The aforementioned Prince William Forest RV Campground is open year-round.

NUMBER OF SITES

Oak Ridge Campground has 100 sites. Each site can accommodate up to six people and can fit three tents. No more than two vehicles are allowed at a campsite, and vehicles must be parked on the pavement. Extra vehicles, or vehicles that don’t fit on the pavement, must be parked in the overflow parking areas located at the campground entrance and between Loops B and C.

TYPE OF CAMPING

A LOOP

A Loop is open to tent campers and RVs. There are 42 sites in all, but only 23 can accommodate RVs due to size limitations. All are wooded and have plenty of level areas for a tent. The ground is hard, clay-like dirt, not a sandy soil. There may be patches of grass or moss, but for the most part, your tent will sit on the dirt. A few sites have actual tent pads that can fit one large tent. Tent pads are usually installed on hilly terrain to provide at least one level spot, but since most campsites at Oak Ridge Campground are level to begin with, the pads are not really needed. The size is roughly 10’ x 10’.

Sites A23 and A25 are reserved for disabled visitors. These sites are closer to the restrooms and have a special picnic table for those in wheelchairs. Other than that, the sites are no different than any other sites.

B LOOP

There are 25 campsites in B Loop, but only 11 can accommodate RVs due to size limitations. Only B Loop has showers, though these are open to all campers.

There is not much difference between B Loop and A Loop other than that B Loop has more grassy sites. While this sounds great, B Loop did seem to be a little more run down, plus grass is a haven for ticks.

If camping in a tent, avoid sites B24 and B25. These are small and don’t have much room. B25 is actually a disabled-visitor site, as is B2

C LOOP

The 33 sites in C Loop are available to tent campers only only. The main difference between this and the other loops is that most sites, but not all, have tent pads. However, all sites but C5 are level, so pads really add no benefit. The terrain is hard-packed earth similar to A-Loop; there is not much grass here.

For those wanting to get away from the road and don’t mind lugging gear about 50 yards, sites C12, C13, C14, C15, C17, C21, C25, and C28 are all set back in the woods. The rest of the sites have camping areas right next to the driveway (which is right next to the road).

Sites C32 and C33 are reserved for disabled visitors. These sites are closer to the restrooms and have a special picnic table for those in wheelchairs. Other than that, the sites are no different than any other sites.

AMENITIES

There are no electricity or water hook-ups at the Oak Ridge Campground. If you are in an RV and would like such amenities, try the Prince William Forest RV Campground.

There are restrooms with flush toilets and running water in each of the three loops, but only the B Loop restrooms have showers. These are open to all campers, regardless of which loop you camp in.

All sites have a picnic table, grill / fire-ring, and a lantern post. Some have tent pads, but regardless, nearly every site is level, so the pads are not a necessity.

RESERVATIONS

Reservations are required for all campsites at Oak Ridge Campground. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance, including the day of your arrival, online at Recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777. No payment can be made at Prince William Forest Park.

FEES

The camping fee in 2024 is $26/night. Owners of a Senior or Access pass receive a 50% discount on individual campsites.

The entrance fee to the park is not included with the camping fee.
