CORINTH CIVIL WAR DRIVING TOUR STOP 7
The Mitchell House site is located at 300 Childs Street in Corinth, Mississippi. The house no longer exists, and the property is now occupied by the Corinth City Hall.
During the Civil War, the Mitchell House was the headquarters of various generals on both sides of the conflict, depending on which side occupied Corinth at the time. Notable residents include Confederate General Frank Cheatham and Union generals Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, and Don Carlos Buell. The large house was built for Houston Mitchell and his family.
Across the street is the Veranda-Curlee House, another Corinth home that was used as the headquarters for officers on both sides. Unlike the Mitchell House, it still exists and is open for tours.
