The Vermont State Memorial was dedicated in October 1889, and at the time it was one of the tallest monuments at Gettysburg National Military Park. It is comprised of a granite base and column approximately 55 feet tall with a bronze statue of Brigadier General George Stannard on the top (adds another 11 feet). On three sides of the base are inscriptions listing the various military units from Vermont that fought at Gettysburg. The front side features the Vermont Coat of Arms.
The Vermont State Memorial is located where Stannard’s 2nd Vermont Infantry Brigade was positioned on Cemetery Ridge on July 3, 1863, during Pickett’s Charge.
