The New York State Memorial at Gettysburg National Military Park is located on the grounds of Soldiers’ National Cemetery (aka Gettysburg National Cemetery). The monument is 93 feet tall, including a 13-foot bronze sculpture of a woman holding a wreath of flowers for the dead. The woman faces the New Yorker section of graves. At the base of the column is a bass-relief sculpture that depicts officers who commanded troops at Gettysburg. Most are New Yorkers (which makes sense), but a few are from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Washington, D. C. (which doesn’t make sense). A tablet on the rear of the monument lists all New York officers killed or wounded at Gettysburg.
The memorial was dedicated in 1893.
