State Memorials Map

The Indiana State Memorial at Gettysburg National Military Park is located at the base of Culp’s Hill near Spanglers Spring. This is near the site where the 27th Indiana Infantry regiment made a suicidal attack on July 3, 1893, against Confederate troops who had occupied abandoned Union breastworks the day before. The 27th Indiana lost 32 percent of its men.

The monument is one of the newer Union state memorials, as most were erected between 1880 and 1930. The Indiana State Memorial was dedicated in 1971.
