Old Mine Road Historical Buildings

The Calno School is located on the New Jersey side of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area at the southern end of Old Mine Road. If using Google Maps for directions, search “Calno School.” It is five miles southwest of Millbrook Village, another historical site within the park.

The original Calno School was built in the early 1870s at another location and moved to its current location around 1874. The original building was eventually replaced in 1910 by the one standing today. By the 1940s, the Calno School District was absorbed into a larger one, and students attended school elsewhere. The school house was converted into a municipal building and used up through the 1970s. It was occasionally used for meetings throughout the 1990s, closing for good in 1997 when the town of Pahaquarry, which only had six residents by then, was dissolved and became part of Hardwick Township. Today the building is boarded up and no longer in use for any purpose.
