There are two hiking trails within Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site. The Top Cottage Trail leads to Top Cottage, the home where Franklin Roosevelt went to get away from the crowds that flocked to his Springwood estate. The cottage is actually part of Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, but it is right next to Eleanor’s Val-Kill. It is 2 miles to the cottage and back, and the trail is moderate to strenuous in difficulty.
Eleanor’s Walk is a 1-mile loop trail that passes through the southern end of the park. It is moderate in difficulty.
While not part of Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site, it is possible to walk from Val-Kill to Springwood. Called the Roosevelt Farm Lane, the trail starts at just across the street from the main entrance to Val-Kill and runs for 1.8 mile to the entrance of Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. Tack on another .3 mile (one way) to get to Springwood and the FDR Presidential Library along the park entrance road.
