There is a large boat ramp at Ikes Point on Echo Lake, which is located on the west side of Acadia National Park’s Mount Desert Island. The ramp is suitable for launching canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and motorized boats, though motors are limited to 10 horsepower. Just up the road is a paved parking area that can hold a dozen vehicles. I visited on the Monday before Labor Day and the ramp was busy with kayakers. There were no boat trailers in the parking lot, just cars, so the spot looks to be popular with paddlers.

On most lakes and ponds at Acadia National Park, paddleboarding, windsurfing, and kiteboarding are not allowed because it is easy to fall off into the water, and no humans are allowed in the water at lakes and ponds that are used as a drinking water source. However, Echo Lake is not a drinking water source, so paddleboarding and swimming are allowed but not windsurfing and kiteboarding. There is no wind here worth mentioning unless a tornado or a hurricane hits, so those interested in these sports wouldn’t come here to begin with.
