Surveying Monument
Stop 7 on the walking tour of the Poverty Point archaeological site is a surveying monument located on Ridge 3. There are five such markers at various locations at Poverty Point. A surveying monument defines a geographic position on the face of the earth. Using surveying instruments, archaeologists can use the markers as reference points for mapping the location of any artifact or point of interest at Poverty Point.
