The Mule Barn at Cane River Creole National Historical Park’s Oakland Plantation was built in the 1820s for use as a smoke house. When lightning struck and burned down the existing mule barn in 1927, the smoke house, which was no longer being used, was converted into the mule barn that is standing today.

Visitors are welcome inside the barn whenever it is open, typically Wednesdays through Sundays from 9 AM to 3:30 PM.
