Oakland Plantation Carriage House at Cane River Creole National Historical Park

The Oakland Plantation Carriage House at Cane River Creole National Historical Park was built in the 1820s when most of the other buildings on the property were constructed. It originally had three bays, but it was modified into a garage once automobiles became popular in the early 1900s. In the 1950s the ceiling was modified to fit a mechanized cotton picker.

The Carriage House is located behind the Oakland Plantation Store. It is not open to the public, but you can look inside, as some sections are open like a barn. Today it is used to store maintenance equipment for the park.
