The Carpenter’s Shop at Cane River Creole National Historical Park’s Oakland Plantation was constructed using hand hewn cypress logs notched into place with dovetail joints. It was then covered in lime wash paint, a chalky-textured paint made from crushed limestone, water, and natural pigments. Lime wash paint has been around since the Roman Empire days, and it’s making a comeback in modern home interior decorating.
The Carpenter’s Shop is not open to the public.
