The only known grave of a solider buried on the Chickamauga Battlefield is that of Confederate Private John Ingraham. The reason he was buried here is because he was a local resident, and friends and family figured that he might as well be buried where he died. Many Confederates were originally buried in mass graves on the battlefield, but all were moved and interred at other cemeteries.

You can visit the grave site of Private Ingraham either by car or by hiking. By car, the grave is located on Alexander’s Bridge Road near the intersection with Brotherton Road. There is a small parking area. The location is indicated on the park trail map.

If hiking the Confederate Line Trail, the grave can be accessed near the start of the hike, which begins at the Texas Monument on Battleline Road. Follow the Yellow Trail for about a half mile and take a left at the Green Trail when you come to the intersection. Round trip along the Green Trail to the grave and back to the Yellow Trail takes about ten minutes.
