CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD TOUR
STOP 8: HORSESHOE RIDGE AND SNODGRASS HILL
Allow 30 minutes for a visit
The last stop on the Chickamauga Battlefield Tour is at Horseshoe Ridge and Snodgrass Hill, which is where the battle ended on September 20, 1863. It is here that the remaining Union troops made their last stand before retreating towards Chattanooga.
Stop 8 actually has three sites to see. You will first come to the Snodgrass Cabin and a field of monuments and artillery. There is a small parking area in front of the cabin. You can spend about 10 minutes in this area if you walk the field to see the monuments.

Once done, continue down the road to Snodgrass Hill. There is additional parking for this area, wayside exhibits, and monuments dotting the smallish Snodgrass Hill.
To get to Horseshoe Ridge, take the short trail from the Snodgrass Hill parking area to the top of the ridge. You will pass the 2nd Minnesota monument on the way. At the top are more monuments.
Plan to spend a half hour at Stop #8 if you want to see all three areas and the monuments, plus listen to the Cell Phone Tour.
