The National Park Service runs free art programs at Weir Farm National Historical Park whenever the Burlingham House Visitor Center is open. Paper and colored pencils are available during the week, and watercolor paints are available on the weekends. While the program is most popular with children, adults are welcome to use the art supplies as well. Professional artists are sometimes scheduled to stop by on Sundays to give tips about watercolor plein air painting. See the National Park Service’s Calendar for a schedule.
There are also structured one- and two-day art programs on select weekends. These are always free, but some of the classes do require that you register. Dates and times are also listed on the park’s Calendar web page. If interested in being notified when classes become available, call the park at (203) 834-1896 and ask to be put on the artist email list.
If you have your own art supplies, you are welcome to visit Weir Farm and set up anywhere you would like. The park grounds are open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
Weir Farm National Historical Park also participates in the Artist-in-Residence program. Each month an artist is chosen from a pool of applicants to live at Weir Farm and work on his or her art. If interested in applying, visit the Artist-in-Residence Program web page for the park.
