For a park that is not all that popular, Russell Cave National Monument sure has a lot of picnic tables. I’m guessing that these mainly accommodate school groups, because I can’t imagine anyone wanting to host a large gathering here due to its remoteness, not to mention that there are no grills and that alcohol is prohibited. However, birthday parties, family reunions, and even weddings are welcome at the park, though a permit is required. If interested, call the Visitor Center at (256) 495-2672 for more information.
Most of the tables are located in a large, shaded field next to the Visitor Center. Here you will find seventeen tables, including one handicap table. There are five more tables located on the small hill above the parking lot, two tables on the paved sidewalk right outside the back door of the Visitor Center, and three tables located at the loop at the end of the driveway into the park. As mentioned, there are no grills at any of these areas.
