PARK FILM
A 7-minute film about Russell Cave National Monument shows on demand in a small lecture room—just ask a Ranger to start it for you. The film focuses on the early people who once occupied Russell Cave. It also discusses many of the unique artifacts that have been found in the cave. There is no objectionable material, so the film is suitable for all ages. Be sure to watch it before heading out to see the cave.
RUSSELL CAVE MUSEUM
The Visitor Center is home to a small museum about Russell Cave. Exhibits focus on the people who inhabited the cave throughout four different anthropological time periods. To augment the information panels, there are plenty of artifacts on display such as arrowheads, fish hooks, and pottery, all of which were found in the cave during previous archaeological excavations.
SCHEDULING YOUR TIME
To read all of the information and see the artifacts in the museum takes no more than 20 minutes. Factor in the park film, and a half hour spent at the Russell Cave National Monument Visitor Center should give you the background information you need to make sense out of a trip to the actual cave, a five-minute walk from the building.
