Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area | MOUNTAIN BIKING

Mountain biking as Sope Creek

Mountain biking as Sope Creek

Mountain Biking is allowed on select trails in the Sope Creek and Columns Drive sections of the Cochran Shoals Unit at Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Although I enjoy mountain biking, I did not bike any of the trails in the park because I hiked them instead. All bike trails also allow hikers.

I would estimate that you can get a 5-7-mile ride on the Sope Creek/Columns Drive bike trails. Based on seeing the trails on foot, I’d say that the ride would be fun and not overly strenuous. Most of the trails are rated as “Easy” with some “Intermediate” sections. For children, the nearly flat Fitness Trail that resides mainly in the Columns Drive Section also allows bikes.

The west section of the Palisades Unit has a 1.5-mile paved trail that allows bikes of any type, though I can’t see how this would be much fun on its own. The trail does connect to other urban trails in northwest Atlanta. For more information see the Rottenwood Creek Multi-use Trail web page.
